Amarillo Area Mental Health Consumers operates the Agape' Center

a peer support and resource center serving indviduals suffering  from mental illness

The Agape Center is a peer supportand resource center that is located inside the Buchanan Street Chapel, 1515 S. Buchanan, Amarillo, Texas. The Center is open Monday, Wednesday, and Friday from 10:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m. Noon to 4pm Tuesdays and on Thursdays 3:30pm to 7:30pm. We offer support groups, classes, activities and encourage mental health consumers to help and support each other.

Believing in recovery, the center tries to provide an environment where consumers can grow and deal with their illness responsibly and take control of their own lives. Learning healthy interdependence is one of our goals and we try to enhance whatever professional treatment a person is receiving in order to help keep people out of the hospital.

A typical day at the Agape center would include a support group in the morning, crafts at midday, and classes and activities in the afternoon. Plenty of free time is interspersed between structured activities. Thursday night activities include support groups, classes, guest speakers, outings and activities.
